Question: I recently broke the nuts off my right rear shock and continued to drive my car. As I was driving, the inner part of the shock dropped down and was dragging on the road. At that point, I jacked my car up to bring the rod back up and clamped into position so I could make it home. What would cause the rod to drop? Should I rethread the end and still try using the same shock? 
Please help me with this issue. I'm desperate!

Answer: I am afraid that I have to answer your question with a number of questions:
1. I am presuming you have a Silver Shadow or T Type - could you let me have the VIN of the car?
2. How did you break the nuts off the shock absorber ? The nuts hold the piston of the shock absorber into the cup below the trailing arm so if the nuts are removed the piston will extend through this cup 
3.I would be amazed if the piston of the shock is not bent as it will have been dragged along the road so you will need to replace the whole shock absorber but first of all I need to know what happened to the shock nuts in the first place.

Question: My vin # is SRH15000? I can't remember the last three digits and my I'm not near my car. It's in another town. 
The bottom of the post with the nuts on was bent, so I stupidly tried to straighten it out. When I did, they snapped off. Because of the weight I had in my trunk, the shock didn't go up. But, I still don't know why it came down, unless the shock failed. I just ordered a new shock!
