Question: Fuel gauge not working - thinking it may be the fuel sending unit - how do I get to this part?

Answer: The fuel tank sender is behind the boot facing panel as you look in to the boot. This will drop down when unfasten the 2 plastic clips (for later cars) or 2 screws (for early cars). Drop the carpet panel down to access the fuel sender unit for testing.
